Family Memories

Grandma Stoops

Grandma Stoops worked at the Texas Dinner when she was a teenager.  She loved working there!  Tons of people to meet, great coworkers, an amazing boss, and food that was to die for.  She started working there during World War II and the War ended before she quite.  It was one night after the War ended that the Texas Dinner was hopping.  Tons of people and the waitress where busy as ever.  As Grandma was off to a table a man stopped her and asked if she wanted to go out sometime.  She replied that she was to busy to think and to ask her later.  So the night continued at the fast pace and more people came.  The same guy stopped and asked her if she had time to think about it and she responded that she hadn't and to ask her later, she also tells that she actually forgot that he asked her out.
Closing time came and Grandma was helping clean up so that everyone could go home.  One of the guys up front called back and said, "Hey Gerry!  This guy says he knows you.  Is that true?"  Grandma was so confused and couldn't think of the guy it could be.  So she looked down the isle to the front door and lo and behold it was the same young man in his navy uniform.  She said she new him and then went up to the front to talk to him.  He asked her if she had time to think about it yet.  She laughed and said their was no way of backing out now, and she said yes she would go out with him.  She invited him in again and they talked for a while and then went on a date later on.
The rest is a story of joy and true love!  This is how Grandma Stoops met Grandpa Stoops!

Christopher Peters

Sometimes the best immigration stories are told briefly and leave you hanging on for more.  The following is the account of how Christopher Peters immigrated to America:
Christopher Peters got on a boat to hear the band play.  The boat set sail for America.

With that short and brief story tells so much of the time and day.  Here was a man that was just trying to listen to some music and then found that he was heading to America without any return voyage.  His plans for the day changed and also the plans for his life.  This shows the lax control on passengers, immigrants, transportation, and travel.
Not only was this not expected, but Christopher then made it work!  He did not give up, but made a man out of himself in this new country.  He survived and started a family here.  Because of this event, thousands of his descendants enjoy the freedom and blessings of America.  We are the product of this action and truly can see that giving up is never an option no matter what.
We must put our faith in God and act so that all may work out!
